Our Lady of Loretto is situated northwest of Downtown of Los Angeles and southwest of Echo Park, in the southwest corner of 101 and 110 Freeways.
January 26, 1904, Bishop Thomas Conaty presented to the Board of Consultants the idea of creating a new parish for the northwestern part of the city of Los Angeles. June 1905, a new parish was created with her new pastor, Reverend Monsignor George Donahue; and the first mass was celebrated on Sunday, 25th of June, 1905 in a tempoary church.
However, it was not until the 11th of July of that same year that the newly formed parish was canonically erected. Then, on the 27th of August, Bishop Conaty dedicated the parish to Our Lady of Loretto.
The current brick and concrete church with the 90ft bell tower was built in 1959 to accomodate the growth of the parish.
In 1988 the parish was entrusted to the care of the Divine Word Missionaries, founded by St. Arnold Janssen, a religious order that has been given the opportunity by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to be the mandate of the Order’s mission.
July 2012, Our Lady of Loretto returned to the care of the Archdiocese with Father Hiếu Trần. And July 2014 Fr. Hiếu was named Pastor of Our Lady of Loretto. Since his arrival, Fr. Hieu worked with the various ministries and the parish community and brought about the integral Loretto Community as a whole, uplifting the presence the Church into the wider community. Because of his success as pastor, July 2016, the Archdiocese asked Fr. Hieu to take on a difference assignment where he was much needed, Sacred Heart - Lancaster.
The Archdiocese then sent Fr. Anh-Tuấn D Nguyễn as Administrator. Subsequently one year later, July 2017, Fr. Anh-Tuấn is named as pastor.
Carrying on heritage of faith of parishioners of previous generation, our Loretto Community continue to discern and reorienting herself to the profound needs of all peoples, cultures and races: being the presence of God a community that extends a welcome to all people, building a unity that protects and appreciates the richness of diversity.
In addition, we have a wonderful school serving Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grades.
Our school is supervised by Mr. Carlos Loaiza, Sr.
